Lawyers For People. Not The Powerful.

MAJOR FELONY DEFENSE

When your life, future, and reputation are on the line, do not go it alone and get the answers you need. The prosecution has a team of police officers, case agents, lawyers, and paralegals working on the case against you. You need a team of your own if you are charged with or suspected of murder, conspiracy, robbery, larceny, kidnapping, sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor, drug trafficking, drug sales, or other serious offenses.

DUI / DWI

A DWI arrest carries serious consequences, including possible jail time, a loss of your license, and fines. There is only one chance to get your case right and to make sure your rights are protected, including protecting you from insurance companies.

The answers are out there. Contact us to get them so you know everything you need to know.

DRUG CRIMES AND OFFENSES

While Connecticut has decriminalized certain marijuana offenses, the penalties for any other drug offenses are still very heavy. Drug cases almost always involve search and seizure issues and your right to remain silent.

Drug offenses cannot be taken lightly, especially if you have a substance abuse problem affecting your health. We focus a large part of our practice on drug offenses. Please call us if you need help with larceny, kidnapping, sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor, drug trafficking, drug sales, or other serious offenses.

gun crimes – state and federal

Gun crimes are harshly and heavily prosecuted in state and federal courts in Connecticut. Guns are regulated in dozens of ways, and the violation of any of those laws carrying heavy penalties, including your right to carry a gun if you are already able to do so, larceny, kidnapping, sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor, drug trafficking, drug sales, or other serious offenses.

Sex offenses and child sex abuse

If you are even a suspect in a sexual assault or child sexual abuse case, contact us immediately and do not talk to anyone at all without a lawyer. There is only one chance to get these cases correct and the amount of evidence against you is only known once the case gets to court. The deck is stacked against those suspected of or charged with a sex offense, so contact us immediately if you are contacted by the police, the FBI or any other law enforcement agency about such a crime.

Appeals

If you were convicted of a criminal offense, your case is far from over. The Law Office of Christopher Duby LLC, through its attorneys, handles criminal appeals and has briefed and argued before the Connecticut Supreme and Appellate Courts numerous times. Its founder, Attorney Christopher Duby, is also admitted before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Fraud

Mail fraud, tax fraud, wire fraud and bank fraud are offenses usually investigated by the FBI, SEC and other agencies. These types of cases are largely based on documents, emails, text messages and surveillance. Do not talk to anyone at all if you are contacted by any member of law enforcement about a fraud investigation without talking to a lawyer first. The Law Office of Christopher Duby has gotten successful results for clients in fraud cases but that starts with contacting us immediately.

habeas corpus petitions

In order for either the State of Connecticut of the United States to keep you within their custody, the detention must be legal. The legality of a jail sentence is litigated through a petition for writ of habeas corpus. If you wish to challenge your conviction, please contact us to give you an analysis of your case.

WHITE COLLAR DEFENSE

Not all crimes involve violence, but they are still serious. Do not let your freedom or reputation get called into question or ruined by a white collar case. These cases involve embezzlement, insider trading, bank transactions, mortgage fraud, perjury and false statements. You have worked too hard to allow such charges to go without an aggressive defense.
